The Reason Why You Are Stuck

You finally make the decision to start building that business idea out and you secure your domain, your social media account names and setup your email. Before you know it you’re clicking away every evening from 8:45pm to 11:50pm and despite working so many hours before you go to bed you cannot point to one thing you accomplished.

You are stuck and you’re not alone. There is so much “Other Stuff” that you need to consider when building a business and when you’ve never “been there, done that” it’s easy to make all sorts of movement without generating any real momentum.

In this short video, discover the core reason why you’re stuck and what getting unstuck will take if you’re truly serious about launching that business idea and creating a better future for you and your family.

Just Ask For Help

You may have noticed that the more public someone’s life is the more criticism they seem to receive. The reason why? They have made themselves vulnerable by putting their craft out for everyone to see.

Entrepreneurs are not much different. We are subject to failure and criticism unlike typical 9-5 workers because we are putting much more of who we are on the line. As a result we are knocked down over and over again. Whether by our own conscience or by others, we are knocked down.

Getting knocked down leads to inaction and inaction leads to the sensation of feeling stuck – no matter what you do you can’t or don’t move forward.

In this short video Dave Shrein reveals the secret to getting unstuck and the secret to getting up from all the “knocked down” moments you will experience as an entrepreneur.

How to use a conference hashtag on Twitter

You’ve probably seen the # that has been adopted for the conference your attending. In March/April of 2015 the Infusionsoft Icon Conference adopted #ICON15 as their Twitter hashtag and thousands of Tweets ensued.

When you first check out a conference # you may be overwhelmed by the amount of content coming through. Unless you have a predetermined strategy for using Twitter or conference hashtags, knowing what to Tweet is tough.

My Advice for How to Use a Conference Hashtag

You’ll see a lot of retweets, quotes and self-promotion but that’s not what you want to do… at least not if you want to be noticed. To stand out you need to put your own self-interests to the side and begin making your hashtag engagement all about others.

When you see someone who has retweeted something that you appreciate, reply directly to them and say, “wow, I missed this, thanks for sharing it.”

If someone makes a comment on how impactful a certain session was on them ask, “what is the biggest takeaway that you are going to act on?”

People love talking about themselves and the more opportunity you give someone to do that, the more likely that someone will wonder who you are. They’ll navigate to your Twitter bio (so have that completed with picture and all) and then they will move onto your tweet history.

For a Little Bit More on This

All the above is good – but if you want to know which tweets are the best to comment on you need to watch the video. Let’s just say it’s personal.

In the short Periscope video recap I talk about how you can use a conference hashtag to increase your engagement, hashtag presence, follower count and ultimately your influence.

Pursuing Your Dream While Working a 9-5 | Episode 011

If the title doesn’t say it all. You know exactly what this is all about. You have passion or a dream that burns inside of you and yet the majority of your time is spent at your 9-5 building someone else’s business. It’s not that you begrudge their business (after all, it’s keeping food on the table and a roof over your head – and in some cases Apple products in your hands) but you know that you were meant for something different than the 9-5.

In this episode of #dactalk  (which stands for Dave and Community Talk) +Dave Shrein and +John Meese talk all about how to manage the fine art of pursuing your dream while working a 9-5.

How do you focus on your paying job while you’re clocked in yet give the necessary attention to your dream that is beating inside your heart?

How do you manage caring for your family and friends while using every spare moment outside of the 9-5 to build your dream?

How do you turn what you love doing into what generates meaningful and consistent income?

How do you build an audience to engage with along the journey?

If you’ve ever wondered, “is there a better way to make this happen?” then this is the episode for you. You’ll find community, hope and encouragement from two entrepreneurs who are living it right along side you.

The Quickest Way to Achieve Success | Episode 009

Video Not Working? Watch on YouTube.

We all want to know the secret to success. We look at what others are doing around us and wonder, “what is it that they’re doing because it seems to be working.” There is, in fact, a secret to success – though honestly it’s not as interesting as your typical secret.

In the world of building your brand and creating an online business there is one thing you must do if you want to achieve success at a significant pace and here it is: suck up your pride and learn from others.

You may see four or five others who are building their business and it seems like everything is just falling into place – so what is it that they’re doing that is bringing success? While it may not be a prescription for what you should do it may be a good description that you could adapt for yourself.

In this episode of #dactalk Dave Shrein and Meiko Seymour team up to talk about their most recent experiences of learning and share some of their favorite places to listen to the success and failures of others.

The Creative Process | Episode 006

Video not working? Watch on YouTube.

For anyone who is creating any type of art (be it intellectual or physical) the creative process is sacred. It is this process that enables an artist to harness the inspiration and courage to produce their most excellent work. While there will never be a “right” creative process, there are certain truths and principles that we all must be aware of if we ever want to truly find our own creative process.

The episode of dactalk is all about this creative process. It was very interesting for me to hear Charissa’s process especially in light of my own. My process is very much influenced by my daily circumstances whereas Charissa’s process is much more intentional. Topics like this one produce descriptive ways of approaching the creative process and not descriptive ways.

It’s my firm belief that the most important part of the creative process has two facets: you feel good and you produce good work. If one of these is missing it might be a good idea to re-evaluate your current process.

I am continuing to refine my process and as you’ll hear in the conversation I don’t have a defined process, per se, however, I do know certain elements that work for me. I hope this will help inspire you to find what works for you!

Video not working? Watch on YouTube.

Online business has become so popular that almost everyone has something they’re trying to sell. When you partner with a new organization, join a team or become a rep for a product you’re already using and loving the easies place to go sell is social. However, you can do a lot of damage to your personal profile by pushing products and services without doing the necessary front end work.

In this episode of #dactalk, Charissa and I take on the topic of selling on social media. There are so many different angles to come at this topic because everyone’s business is different. For the family looking to make an extra $1,000 a year it will be a completely different strategy than the person trying to quit his/her job to go full time with their new business.

Some of the topics covered include being authentic in everything you post, loving the products that you’re trying to sell, owning your voice, becoming an authority based upon life experience and many more.

If you have any desire to sell anything and use social to do it, you need to watch this entire episode. You will save yourself a lot of trouble.

Dreaming Is Dangerous

The above clip was taken from #dactalk Episode 005, Selling On Social Without Sounding Like a Salesman

In an earlier post I wrote about the danger we face when dreaming. I didn’t realize it when I initially wrote it, but this is a topic that I am apparently pretty passionate about.

[Tweet “Dreaming is dangerous but dreaming is worth it.”]

I host a entrepreneur Google Hangout every other week with my co-host Charissa Moore and the topic of danger in selling came up. I took the opportunity to elaborate on the danger of dreaming.

What is the dream you have for your life? I don’t care how old you are or unprepared you are or unable you are… please share below what dream you currently have for your life. There is great power in committing a dream to words so…
